Llama Run
Llama Run
Earlier in 2018, me and a few friends decided to drive old VW Bugs from South Brazil to Peru! We lost a car (and a participant) on the way, but we managed to visit incredible places along the route.
The Route
Starting in Southern Brazil, we drove northwest through some of South America’s most stunning landscapes:
- Iguazu Falls: One of the world’s most spectacular waterfall systems
- The Andes: Crossing the mountain range at altitude
- Atacama Desert: The driest desert on Earth
- Salar de Uyuni: The world’s largest salt flat in Bolivia
- Lake Titicaca: The highest navigable lake in the world
- Machu Picchu: The legendary Incan citadel
- Cusco: Our final destination after a month on the road
The Vehicles
Classic VW Bugs—air-cooled, rear-engine, and definitely not designed for this terrain. One didn’t make it, which is all part of the adventure.
The Adventure
Overlanding in vintage vehicles teaches you patience, problem-solving, and the art of going with the flow. Every breakdown becomes a story, every detour a discovery.
A month-long adventure that proved the journey matters more than the destination.
