The Route

The Big Bend, Texas BDR-X is a shorter BDR-style route that loops through iconic terrain including Big Bend National Park, Big Bend Ranch State Park, and remote wilderness areas. Riders explore the untamed beauty of the Chisos Mountains, encounter hidden historical gems, and experience the unique backdrop of the Rio Grande river.

Highlights

Big Bend National Park

Traverse primitive two-track with patches of deep sand, optional challenging routes on Old Ore Road, and visit Boquillas Overlook for panoramic views with an optional excursion into Mexico.

Big Bend Ranch State Park

An optional 47-mile detour through scenic desert terrain with expansive views, ending at the Sauceda Bunkhouse.

Remote Desert Riding

Navigate remote two-track along the Rio Grande on Chispa Road, featuring the notorious Godzilla Hill—a long, steep climb with a distinctive rock formation.

The Experience

This route is designed for intermediate riders seeking a remote and unforgettable desert adventure. The area is rich with tourist activities, hiking, rafting, historical sites, and vibrant artistic communities in towns like Marfa and Terlingua.

Planning

Best ridden in fall (October to November) or spring (March to April) when temperatures are mild. The route can generally be completed in 4-6 days, with lodging and camping options available throughout.
